Those Serving Us at Kennewick First

Our church is blessed with many dedicated volunteers and faithful parishioners. In addition, we are pleased to have these people on staff at Kennewick First.

Reverend Jerry Poole, Interim Pastor

The Reverend Jerry Poole has been named as Interim Pastor of our Church beginning Feb. 1.  Rev. Poole is a Presbyterian minister who has had special training within that denomination as an interim pastor.  He has served as an interim pastor in nine different congregations for an average term of about two years each.  He’s finishing an interim appointment this week (Jan. 15) at the Covington United Methodist Church near Kent.  He’s also served a term as the rough equivalent of a District Superintendent within the Seattle area of the Presbyterian Church.

Jerry grew up in Yakima and graduated from Washington State University in psychology.  During his seminary training in Pasadena, CA, he worked one summer as an intern at the Central United Protestant Church in Richland.

Bishop Hagiya’s intent is that Jerry’s appointment here will be for a period of 17 months.  That would allow the Church to stabilize operation of its new organizational structure and start implementation of new initiatives derived from the recently completed visioning process.  A regular appointment would then be made at the traditional time in June of 2013.

Pastor Mark Williams

Mark is an ordained United Methodist pastor working with Kennewick First since July of 2010. He provides leadership for Worship, Small Groups and Stephen Ministry. He holds a BA in Clinical Psychology from Central Washington University, a Master of Divinity from the Iliff School of Theology, and certification from the Beeson Institute fro Advanced Church Leadership. Mark has served as lead pastor at the United Methodist churches in Spokane, Snohomish, Port Hadlock, and Eatonville in Washington. He was the pastor of a new church startup in Ocean Shores, Washington and served as a staff member at Lakewood UMC in Denver, Colorado. He has also been invited to serve as a speaker, music leader, chaplain and spiritual director at numerous church conferences, camps and retreats in the Pacific Northwest around the United States and abroad.

Cynthia Bement, Youth & Education Director
Cynthia was hired as one of two half-time Youth and Education directors in September of 1992. She has been instrumental in building the programs up, now requiring two full-time directors. Cynthia's primary responsibilities are with the Sunday School and Youth programming, including Confirmation, Bible studies for maturing youth, mission trips, church camps, outreach, and the many additional events planned for youth and families. Her specialty is leading the church's ministry with Senior High youth. In addition she orchestrates the weekly Cornerstone classes that run throughout the church year on Tuesday evenings. Cynthia is a graduate of Kamaikin High School here in Kennewick and also has some training from Columbia Basin College. More importantly, her expertise has come from her God given gifts and nearly 20 years of 'on-the-job training' leading various programs for children, youth and adults at Kennewick First. She is married to Randy, who is currently head of transportation for our important Bus Ministry. The Bements have two grown children, Brian and Jocelyn, and son-in-law, Mark O'Donnell.
Brittany Williamson, Youth & Education Director

Brittany has been with Kennewick First United Methodist Church all of her life! Her mother, Debra, and her Co-Director, Cynthia, were actually in the hospital at the same time having their babies, Brittany and Brian, respectively, in June of 1985. She was brought up in Cynthia's youth program and came back from college for two years to be the Summer Intern, running the Youth Program while on break. She, as well as Cynthia, is now delighted to be working together in this vital ministry.  Brittany graduated from Southridge High School in 2003, before attending Eastern Washington University where she obtained her degree in Social Work, graduating in 2007.  After college, she worked for Americorps for two years and was placed at the Juvenile Justice Center here in Kennewick. It was there that she was employed as a Truancy/ARY Counselor until she was offered her job here at Kennewick First. Brittany was hired in September of 2010 and brings her 'personal experiences', as well as experience with youth, enhancing this great program. Her warmth and positive attitude make her a pleasure to work with. We are thankful to have her serving the church that is so dear to her.

Debra Reeve, Office Manager
Debra moved to Kennewick, with her husband, Victor, in 2005 transitioning from a life of farming dryland wheat near Connell. Debra was hired in September of 2010 after retiring from fourteen years with Bank of America. She brings her knowledge of banking, customer service, and office management with her. She also serves as the church's 'Webmaster', so send her your suggestions and information. She is the mother of three grown children, Dulcye, Zack, and Sarah, and has seven grandchilden. Debra has been involved in worship life as a teacher, youth leader, church officer, and delegate to conference at Eltopia UCC for over 25 years. She worked in the Eastern Washington Walk to Emmaus, also serving on the 'Secretariat' for several years with her husband Vic. The couple were also active in the Connell United Methodist Church, where they married 39 years ago, before moving to the Tri-Cities. She loves to spend any spare time with family and friends, traveling and quilting.
Judy Milton, Bookkeeper

Judy was hired in February 2011 and comes to us most recently from the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho where she worked for 27 years in The College of Education, HPERD Accounting Department.  In the past she has had her own accounting business and was also employed in retail banking.  Judy and husband of 47 years, Terry, moved here in October 2010 to be closer to their grandsons, Tazmin and T.J. and of course their son, Todd and daughter-in-law, Misty.  They are also parents to son Darren and daughter Tara.  The Milton’s are members of the First United Methodist Church in Moscow, Idaho. They are now enjoying the mild climate here in the Tri-Cities area.  Judy enjoys spending time with her immediate and extended family along with gardening, reading, sports and travel.  Judy brings a professional demeanor to our office.  Her compassion, kindness, and cheerful attitude has endeared her to her co-workers.

Ruth Anderson, Financial Secretary

Ruth has been financial secretary for the church for over twenty years and continues to faithfully appear every week to count the money from offerings, track, and record each individual’s record of giving. Ruth is a former banker, making a total of three 'retired bankers' who work here in the church office. She jokes about it, saying that this is where 'old bankers' go! Ruth was married to her sweetheart Don Anderson for 61 years, before his passing in January of 2011. Ruth has three grown children, Karlyn, Beverly and Tim; five grandchildren, Erin, Eric, Nathan, Whitney and Alicia, and two great-grandchildren, Clayton and Ashley, which she has the pleasure of baby sitting frequently. Ruth's familiarity with the families in our church, and the community, makes her a wealth of knowledge as well as a valuable asset to the office staff. We look forward to seeing her every Monday; she helps us start our week off with a positive note!

Don & Janece Kindig, Custodians

Don and Janece are employed only about twenty hours a week but do a lot of hard work in that period of time as our church custodians. They see that the 25,000 square foot of the church building, and the additional office space next door, is clean and organized. Don is a retired minister in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and Janece is the perfect wife and co-worker. Both of them are dependable, wise, and a true pleasure to be around. They enjoy the flexibility of this work that allows them to spend time with their large family who live in other communities. We are extremly happy to have them with us!

Amberley Almarode, Music Director
Amberley Almarode, our new Director of Music, is very busy setting up choirs and rehearsals! We will be adding a little more about her in weeks to come.
Margo Cox, Accompanist
Margo graduated from Walla Walla College in 2003 with a bachelors degree in music performance. She accompanies worship and special music on both the piano and the organ. She also teaches piano. Margo plays with passion, skill, and inspiration. We truly hear and see God's spirit in her gift of music. Margo is married to Walter and this past spring the couple added Clara Rose Cox to their family! Clara was born March 15th, 2011 and as she approaches her first birthday continues to surprise them daily with the wonder only a child can bring.
